2004 rx330 Transmission replacement
Hey everyone, new to the forum here. A family members rx330's transmission gave out and I would like to replace it. I have not done a transmission replacement on this car before and would like some pointers on where to start for some information.
For those who have done this before, where is a good place to source a transmission?
I am also searching the forums for how to replace the transmission, a general write up of sorts. If anyone has a suggestion, please don't hesitate to comment.
This is a side project of mine, with no due date. It was dropped off today, so I have plenty of time to research and find the best way to do this.

Well, for an RX350 (hopefully RX330 is easier) the SM lists the below for step 63 (i.e., dropping the subframe), then the rest should be easy...
63. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE (See REMOVAL )
You can DIY it: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ve-spring.html

Could I ask specifically what’s wrong with the transmission? Because:
- They are pretty robust units not prone to failure w/o neglect/abuse
- There are a lot of service possibilities w/the transmission in place
- Many shops and all dealers will recommend a transmission r&r when all that is needed is much simpler.
Unless a clutch pack is burned up or there’s mechanical damage, a lot of issues can be fixed with the transmission in place.

Hey all sorry for the delayed response. I finally have the car in the garage and plan to drop it this week.
as for the “whats wrong with it” currently it wont shift into drive and reverse is mid at best here is the sounds it makes. There are obvious metal shards in the transmission fluid as well.

I didn‘t see a link, are you referencing the service manual? Could that be sourced from here? https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo...at_is_tis_page
