Power Hatch will close but not open
So I have been reading all the posts I can find about problems with the power hatch.
But I dont see one where it will close as intended using the remote or the button on the hatch, but will not open. I do hear an electric motor working but I think that is the lock unlock motor.
Do you think I need a new motor or a new set of shocks.
Thanks for your input. Mick

Has it ever opened with the remote since you've owned it?
It could be a personalized setting, which would require Techstream to check and change.
When you manually release the gate with your hand (press the button over the license plate), will the gate open normally?

No it has never opened with the remote, I have only had the car a couple of weeks.
when I push the button above the number plate it does not open until I lift it up.
Thank you for the reply

I have a RX330, my remote will open the hatch, ususally close the hatch too, but in order to open the hatch by pressing the button on the back it requires me to manually lift it it does not trigger the motor to do the lifting not sure if that is standard or not. As a few have chimed in lately their hatch won't close by pressing the interior button under dash this is a result of the high temps we're having now increasing the pressure in the struts it'll calm down when temps drop some. If you've disconnected or changed the battey recently you'll need to do a "reset" for all doors sunroof, and rear hatch

Sorry about that, my car is a 2005 RX330.
Also I have just noticed that when I am in the driver's seat and I press the power hatch button on the dash, I can hear the door alarm sound then the electric motor start and the door does begin to move, but only a tiny bit. Then it stops.

if you can close the rear hatch with very little Resistance and it slams closed, then one or both of the struts need replacing.
You can Prop Up the hatch and remove the struts, if You can compress either one them Easily, then that strut is Defective or Worn out.
Use something Strong to prop up the Hatch, it's heavy and will injure you if it falls on You.
That's the first thing you Need to Check!
It could also be a Weak or Bad Hatch Motor, or Wiring Issues.
Usually when the hatch closes OK, but Won't open, it's usually one of the things I mentiioned.
if it tries to open using the button on the dash, and then closes, it's probably the Struts are Bad,
The Hatch Motor Won't lift the Hatch if the Struts are Bad, it's Not Powerful enough to lift the Hatch without Help from the Struts.
The Hatch motor and the Struts on my '05 RX330 had to be Replaced, but at different times.
Also check the Battery in the Fob.
I ended up Rebuilding the Hatch Motor, it was Easy, once I got it out!
Best Of Luck

Using the button on the dash it does try to open, so hopefully it is the struts.
I have just changed the battery in the key fob so that should be good.
So this brings 2 more questions.
1. Do you have any recommendations for a source of the replacement struts?
2. what is the reset procedure for the rear hatch when the vehicle battery has been changed, I did have to reset the windows as soon as I got the car.
Thank you very much for all the advice and help so far.
