Halogen to HID completed
Spent yesterday swapping out some parts on the old RX330. My teenager put a dent in the fender last winter so I found a replacement (OEM) in the same color. Since the headlights have to come out for this operation, I figured I should upgrade, no sense in putting back in the horrible halogen units. Then of course the fog lights need to match... and the rear washer pump has never worked in the two years we've owned the car, so that gets replaced as well. YouTube has a few videos on the headlight R&R, and I even found one on the fender. Mostly it was drama free, with a few exceptions.
What we started out with:
The tab that interferred with the ballast bracket:
Everything apart, draining the washer fluid at the moment:
Back together. Apparently time for a wash!
Tonight I'll have a test drive and see if we need to make any height adjustments.
Thanks for reading,
- The washer pump is specific to either the rear or front wiring harness, so slight modification was necessary. I could not find a different part number for the two pumps but looking at them side to side they are obviously different. A sharp knife to remove two small tabs on the male part of the pump electrical was all that was necessary.
- The aftermarket fog light assemblies I purchased on the auction site were designed for 9005 bulbs. Apparently they assume you'd want to upgrade from the 9006... so after getting the correct bulb, I needed to trim the tabs in the bulbs for them to fit in the OEM 9006 harness. The 9006 to 9005 upgrade is pretty well documented online.
- I got the Eagle Eyes HID assemblies, used OEM ballasts and two 81125-48180 harnesses to hook up the ballasts. (thanks to MattRX for confirmation on the p/ns) I did have one issue with the ballast cover on one side, it didn't clear a tab on the assembly if the bolt holes were all lined up. So a little cutting was necessary there as well. I also needed to pick up 6 4x20mm bolts to mount this bracket to the ballasts.

These adjusters had to come off ... I guess they're a good idea in theory to be able to adjust horizontal and vertical at the same time but they didn't work. The long metal socket thing has enough play in it that it comes off the adjuster nut, and the plastic socket for the other adjuster just spins on the nut.
Anybody else have that issue?
I need to make some small adjustments still but these headlights are a nice upgrade.
