Default Rear DVD - How to start in DVD mode?

I have an '04 RX330 with the Nav/Lev/Rear DVD system... and I find it very frustrating to operate, even after several attempts through the manual (both the User's Guide and the separate one for the Nav).

Every time I start the car, I have to climb into the rear seat, and set the RSES to source from the DVD before the rear screen shows the video. I've tried starting the DVD from the front screen (parking brake on, tranny in Park), and I get it playing perfectly on the front screen, but it never shows on the rear without going in the back and selecting DVD on that screen.

Can anyone tell me how to start a DVD playing on the rear screen for my kids before I start driving, without climbing into the rear seat?

Dealer salespeople are no help at all (so far), although they are polite....

Thanks!

I have the same setup (NAV/ML/RSES) and it is frustrating that the RSES rear screen shuts off when you start the car. I use the remote control, pressing the "DVD" for source, then the "Cursor" button twice to get rid of the DVD menu "tips" message that always comes up. Still not a very convenient setup but somewhat acceptable since I don't have to climb into the back seat.

Thanks for the workaround tip! I tried it out and it works for me. I guess I'll just get used to it after a while...

No prob. There might be a better workaround but just haven't had time to fool around with the system. Still trying to get the Nav system down too!
