Default Brake pedal shudder/catching

I just got a new RX 330 and when you press the brake pedal lightly, at the very start of the pedal stroke, you get a shuddering/jerking feeling as it goes down. It does this about 1 out of 3 times you press the brake pedal, most noticeable when pressed lightly, as when stopping from a slow speed. You can make it do it when stopped with the car in park, although it is not as prominent. My wife also recently got a new RX 330 which had the same problem but to a lesser degree. She asked them to fix it at her 30 day service, and after finally appreciating that there actually was something abnormal (although I'm still not sure they believe anything is wrong) they asked her to drive it for a while longer to see if it goes away. Anyone have a similar problem, or any idea how to fix it? It feels like it originates from the piston that gets depressed by the pedal.

I've had my RX330 for over a year now. And it used to have a "clunk" noise when the pedal was depressed lightly. There is a known fix for this, and it was very common in the first batch of RX330s. I thought it would've been corrected in the current batch.

There is no clunk noise, it is merely a feeling in the pedal, like it sticks a few times as it's going down at the beginning.

Default The Infamous Shuddering Brake Pedal!

Yes, there have been a few other reports of this problem. Go to the "Suspension and Handling" Section above and look for the "Shuddering Brake Pedal" Thread. This sounds like the problem you are experiencing. Good luck!

Welcome to CL, BTW, I hope our members can be of some help to you!

Ask them to look up for the TSB-'BR004-04' for the brake vibration for 04RX330. If the service advisor don't know, just ask him to talk to shop foreman or a tech and let them " Log on" to the T.I,S system in the shop .
Make sure you mention the TSB# BR004-04. This is a good job and good pay for the tech. I know the tech doesn't mind to do the job or may be you need to try another advisor with difference approach.

Do you know specifically what they do or fix in that TSB?

Default I notice the same shuddering!

Yes, I've noticed the same ABS-like shudder when I'm slowing pressing the brake pedal down. It lasts for about 4 - 6 vibrations, then the pedal acts normally. So you're not imagining things!

i had similar problem with my brakes. when applying the brakes lightly at around 60mph the steering would shake. they picked up the car today and informed me that as per the tsb the rotors, shims, pads would be upgraded. they r waiting for the parts.

yes it seems as your rotors are warped or bent replacing them should correct the problem
