2004 RX with clunk sound when stopping - FIXED
#16
Hey there, we've had our '04 330 for about 4 months and have had this clunking and bump sensation when slowing down throughout...I've been to my local Lexus dealer 3 times now and they have tried to tell me all kinds of different things, so I finally printed off the TSB info from this post and went for a test drive with the service rep to show them i wasn't imagining things. He finally admitted he heard something, but since the TSB is from the US he said it didn't apply here because Lexus Canada is a separate entity and that TSB's vary region to region...
I have another appointment on Thursday to meet with the master mechanic and go for a drive with him - hopefully he's willing to step up.
By the way, is there a "release" or bump-from-behind sensation with the rest of yours? Did both of these issues get fixed with the TSB??
Anyone else from Canada been through this?
Help? Suggestions??

Nothing yet...appointment is on Thursday. I'll post an update then. Which dealer are you working with?
The "release" or "bump" sensation I feel is almost like the brakes releasing or a gear going into neutral all of a sudden. Mine happens consistently around 45Km when decelerating...the clunk sound and the bump occur at the same time.

Hi there, I am in Canada too, but I haven't gone to Lexus yet since I posted my problem on this forum. I have also been to my Lexus dealer in Richmond, BC 3 times before and I have test drove the rx with them and they keep saying that they hear nothing. I got the ECU re-programmed but no help. I had a service loaner of the same rx as mine and it did not have any clunks or anything and drove TOTALLY different than my rx. I would appreciate it if someone had the Canadian TSB on this clunk problem. I thought Lexus was supposed to be reliable thats why i bought it.

Almost there...
So finally got the clunk sound taken care of... but of course it came after 3 visits to the dealer and several test drives with different people - Service Rep, Master Mechanic, Service Manager...
Even though the Service Mgr tried to tell me it was normal, I argued that it could not be and that it definitely was not something that should not be happening, hence the test drive with him. He finally admitted something was up...
So, the clunk sound was taken care of by putting some bushings on the hose which apparently was bolted to the frame and then echoed throughout the car. Having driven it home only (since my wife drives this full time) I thought the "bump or release" sensation was still there...now I haven't driven it enough but my thinking is yes, the bushings address the clunking sound, but based on the original posts here, the replacing of the hose with the new design may fix the sensation (which is a pressure issue with the older tube assembly). Problem is I spent enough of my time (work hours for that matter) trying to get this resolved and I can't go back for a few weeks to confirm whether this is true or not..
Any other experiences out there since?

Hey Cmac, do you have a printout of what the Lexus dealer did to your rx because I want to know the part numbers used and everything. If you dont mind can you write out what was printed on that printout
Thank you
