18" Michelins or Goodyear Eagles tires
What band of tires is coming on the 2005 RX? I order an Fwd 2005 Black Forest Pearl on 10/28/04 with Navigation/Mark Levinson, 18”, HID/AFS, Towing, Rain Sensing Wipers.
The question is can you ask Lexus to put the 18" Michelins on it and not the Goodyear Eagles tire.

Michelins were OEM in 04; possibly Goodyear has been brought back into the fold (the Integritys on the early first gen RXs were not much better than black rubber rim protectors, but Goodyear does have good tires available) again.
Regardless, assuming both Michelins and Goodyears are OEM, your dealer should be willing to swap.

Tire tread life
I have Goodyears on my FWD 2004 RX 330. I have 25000 miles on the tires and they just about need to be replaced. I am very gentle on braking and acceleration and I rotate the tires regularly (7,500 miles). This tire life is not as good as I expected and I was wondering what other experiences people are having on Goodyears and Michelins.

When I bought my 04, I test drove RX's with the Michelins and the Goodyear RS-A's. I thought the Michelins were quieter and had a better ride. I can't say that they handled better. I would give the edge in handling to the Goodyear's. Michelin seems to engineer their OEM tires for fuel economy, tread life, and ride, with noise being secondary and handling somewhere below that. Anecdotally, the RS-A's don't have the best tread life, and Michelins usually last longer than you want them to. Wish Bridgestone made the Turanza LS-H in that 18" size. Maybe by the time I need to replace my Michelins, a few other alternatives will be available.

I too am disappointed by the lack of 18" options for my RX330. I have the Goodyears and while they seem to be holding up ok for now, I don't think they are the best handling tire nor are they quiet. I was surprised to see that only two alternatives exist in this size and load category. I wish some ultra high performance all season tires were available. Specifically, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or perhaps Pirelli PZero Nero M&S.

Michelin MXV4 S8 > GY Eagle RSA
Had a car with 20,000 miles come in with GY's on it, the tires were junk
Had a car with 55,000 miles come in with Miche's on it, the tires had just 3/32'ds left (just..)
Eagle RSA's wear horribly.

Just for the record, I have Michelin Cross Terrain's on my wife's RX300 - they handle well, the ride is excellent, and they're only a little bit more expensive than other choices. They put the stock Bridgestones to shame.
