Default 2005 RX 330 AWD What kind of motor oil......?

Does Lexus requires synthetic or regular motor oil? What's the grade? 5w-30?

Thanks!

You can run either and 5W-30 is the correct oil or even 0W-30 if you live in a colder climate as I do!

Im running Amsoil Synth 0W-30

You can use either.....the correct grade is 5W 30. Considering where booyah is from, he is smart using the 0w30. You can start using synthetic if you like after the first oil change. I use Mobil 1 5W 30 in my ES 300 along with either a Mobil 1 OR K & N oil filters.

What does the manufacturer recommends using though? Synthetic or regular?
I guess for California 5w-30 will do.

10w30 will work fine in CA climates. Unless you live in the mountains that is.

Lexus recommends using regular oil Lex, but as mentioned before either is fine as long as it's the correct viscosity.

10W-30 is old school oil for today's newer fuel efficient engines! Stick with 5W-30 or even )W-30 will not harm a thing!

The only thing 0W-30 will give you is even better start up protection cause its a little thinner---so it gets moving sooner, still a 30W oil when its warm

Don't forget the API rating of SL as well as the 5W30 viscosity.

That API rating jay is pretty much the standard norm among all the major oil brands today anyways.

That's such a factless myth.

Have you guys noticed any difference in horsepower when using the synthetic oil as opposed to regular oil?

Agreed flip.......many higher mileage vehicle owners use 10W30 grade instead of 5W30. If it was 'old school' why do they still make that viscosity grade?

Lex, the answer is no.....synthetic does not increase horsepower.......it protects better as it does not break down over the course of an oil change like conventional oil does over time & is much better in very cold weather to name just a couple of benefits.
