Key Number Plate

Key Number Plate
On page 12 of the 2004 Lexus Owner's Manual RX 330, Lexus states: "Keep the plate in a safe place such as your wallet, not in vehicle." This is workable for men, because men typically put their keys in one pocket and their wallet in another pocket. This is not workable for women! Women typically store both their keys and their wallet in a purse when the keys are not in use. If the purse is stolen, then BOTH the master key AND the key number plate are gone. The cost for remaking both of them is over $600.00 per my dealer.

If I recall correctly ... the key number plate is for ordering only. It is a number that the dealership needs to get you the right key. This number should be in the owners manual ... in the back where they wrote the vin number, delivery mileage, etc. If this is what you are reffering to ... leave it at home.
If you are reffering to the wallet key, then leaving it in the car is an obvious mistake. I leave mine at home. I know if I get locked out I am screwed, but if I get locked out I deserve it .... knowing the safe guards that Lexus has in place to insure that I don't.

This is exactly what I do. I leave both my little metal key plate tag with key code and transponder equiped wallet key at home. I figure if I loose my key I'll jsut call my wife and use her key until I can get a replacement.
