Default Any suggestions for aftermarket alarm?

I'm moving to Miami, FL, and I think I've heard that there is quite a bit of auto theft, burglary, etc, etc. Even though there is the factory theft deterrent system that came with the RX330, I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for an aftermarket alarm that I might get? I just want to avoid anybody smashing the window or even breaking in and vandalizing the car when they find out they can't steal it. So I'm just looking for something with a perimeter type of alarm with tilt sensors, etc, and the whole 9 yards.

Any suggestions?

The security system in the RX330 is already very good. And now a days, a lot of the systems come with fuel and ignition cut off when the alarm goes off. If you dont think thats enough you can gett a viper system or even better a LOJACK system.

Check the audio video forum for more threads... just gathered a few links for a very similar post

OEM alarm is very basic and its primary focus is to keep someone from stealing the vehicle.

In places like Miami and NYC, people don't give it a hoot about car alarms - where it might be the news of the week in Oklahoma. So don't bother wasting money there.

Being a former New Yorker, my suggestion is to keep the interior clean. Don't put anything in there to avoid smash in. This means keeping the glove box and other storage free of valuables, so you don't encourage repeat offenders. Most car thieves would know that they can't drive the RX away, so they won't touch it in the first place. Also don't buy aftermarket stereo or chrome wheels. They will be taken.

The Clifford Matrix/Viper paging alarms with remote start are really decent. I bought one of e-bay and installed it. I used this forum to find schematics and other helpful info.

If you are not good with wiring etc., I would get someone to professionally install.

I spend a TON of time in Miami I usually leave my 04 RX parked outside clubs from like 12 am to 5 am and never had a problem.... I feel comfortable leaving me car everywhere. You can even pay bums to watch your car if your really that worried. They do a great job for 5 bucks. But seriously no one is gonna mess with your car. You should probably invest that money for your alarm in your wardrobe

forget remote start, it is useless gimick. Get an alarm with pager, radar interior/exterior protection and switch on the hood. I have good experience with CG 745i + Echo pager, you can get them from Crutchfield and are much less expensive than Vipers, you get 3 sensor total (including radar interior/exterior).

Thieves love nothing else than operating on your car in silence... Within few seconds, someone can program an new key into your car and drive away with it when you are not watching, all they need is your original key - valet parking, car wash, etc.

99.9% of thieves will not even attempt to mess with you car if they know there is an alarm in it
