Is there a trick to adjusting the roof rack on an RX330? I know the manual says that you should be able to adjust it by raising the little levers that are on either side of each adjustable rack bar, but on mine that only disengages the mechanism on one side. The other side stays locked and will not slide. Releasing the lever on the other side does nothing.
The more I own this thing, the more I see that Lexus quality haas fallen from what it was in our '92 LS400.

Sounds like something might be broken inside the cross bar. It should move by lifting the lever on one side.
How old is your RX330? There's a TSIB about the cross bars - BO011-03, dated December 2, 2003. The problem: "Some customers may not be able to adjust the position of their roof rack cross bars on the 2004 RX330." The solution: replace the bars with ones that have a new locking mechanism inside the bar. The TSIB covers 2004 RX330's in general; there is no serial number range, although the change should have been made at the factory as of the date of the TSIB.
You should be able to call the dealer and get a new set of bars for free given your problem. The bars come out fairly easily... they slide out the back after you pull the plastic cap off the back end of the rails. Replacing them should take less than 20 minutes, assuming they have the parts in stock.

...is affected by the TSIB. I bought it a few months ago as a Certified from a Lexus dealer and it's disappointing to think that they would not have fixed this while doing the Certified inspection. And they are some 90 miles from where I live. Oh well. next year.
