Differential/transfer case oil change - follow-up
I just finished the diff/transfer case gear oil change. What a major PITA the transfer case is. The fill plug came out easily using a 15/16" socket but the drain plug is in an area that is so restricted that it resisted almost all of my efforts. I may look for a thinwall socket for that one. Even then, there is room for the socket but not the handle.
The differential OTH is very easy. Access to both plugs is straight forward and the job was done in less than 20 minutes.
I will comment that I was surprised at the color of the old gear oil. I put Mobil 1 synthetic 75W/90 in there and it is honey colored. The old stuff was jet black.
Well, at least next time I will be able to do this faster, now that I know where everything is, and the fact that the plastic engine cover needs to be removed, i can do this in half the time.

I had to use a 15/16 inch open end. Jack up the right front side to allow for wrench swing. Expect it to be tight, I retightened mine to what felt to be about 35 Ft Lbs...using the open end.
