Best price I found for the OEM filter was at http://www.irontoad.com - $24.
I haven't tried very hard to find an aftermarket replacement. I've seen the filter selling under the Denso name (the actual manufacturer of the OEM filter) for about the same price.

It's just an air filter. Is there any reason why it cannot be just taken out every year or so and brushed off?

I've done that a few times with mine (I found a leaf in there from time to time), and the dust came off with a brushing with a paint brush.

Seems clean now to me.

I inspect mine every three months.

Vacuum and if necessay clean with water, citrus cleaner and a soft brush, allowing to air dry.
Try replacing mine every year, since the fine dust can bind the fan motor bearings and foul the squirrel cage. Replacing the filter is much less trouble than replacing a noisy fan motor.

Good points about simply cleaning the filter and re-using it.
Don't let the color fool you - it's supposed to be gray. I replaced mine when I pulled it out and thought it was filthy because it wasn't white. Well, the new one was almost the same color!

Rxdriver,

I bought a OEM cabin filter from irontoad $24 then bought an aftermarket cabin filter from ATP. Model # RA-3. $15. I compared both filters. It looks to me that the ATP filter is better quality than the OEM one. The material on the ATP is a little thicker plus it looks like it got charcoal particles on the paper too.

OEM doesn't have charcoal. Just a plain paper.

I will try to post pictures.

I used this brand in my GX and the auto vent (fresh/recycle) stopped working. The filter is just too thick and much too restrictive. I'm afaid this added thickness will translate to too much drag on the fan motor, causing additional problems. It's best to play it safe and keep with the factory filter. Just my 2C.
