For those that may be hearing about this TSIB for the first time, it pertains to the transmission shift hesitation on the 2004-2005 RX 330. The software in the transmission ECU (or "computer") can be updated to change its behavior. The trans is heavily biased toward fuel economy, so it doesn't always want to downshift on command in order to accelerate faster.
The February 2006 version is the latest version of the software. The first version was released in September 2003 and has changed a few times since.
For more info, you can search for "TC005-03" and find past threads about what problems this solves - or doesn't solve.

Hi,

TSIB REVISION NOTICE:
February 9, 2006:
– The Calibration Identification Chart has been updated to include ALL 2005 model year RX 330 calibration IDs. Previous versions of this TSIB would not allow updating of RX 330 vehicles built in the later part of 2005 model year.
NOTE: If a vehicle has already been reprogrammed following a previous version of TSIB No. TC005–03, further updates are NOT required.
– A note has been added at the beginning of Repair Procedure step 4 regarding connection of a battery charger during reprogramming.
– OFPs have been updated in Warranty Information.

My understanding is that the 2006 revision is the same patch as before, but enabled a broader range of VIN #s. If you had it done a couple years ago, I dont think youll see any difference.

Although I have an RX300, since I am interested in the performance end, I would be interested in hearing experiences on this reprogramming, before and after.

Tell them your tranny is lagging in shifting and feels jerky and you KNOW there are TSB's exactly for your RX and poblem. Make aure they clear out your computer memory as well after they apply the update.
Should not take more than an hour to do so if you can wait for it--do it and watch and chat with the mechanic
thats what I always do if Its a quick fix, so I make sure there is no question adn it gets done...

Thanks Booyah. Do Lexus dealership let you go inside their mechanic shop? Because they always take the car to the back (where the shop is and do all the mechanical works there). Thanks!!

This thread was Great!. I called my Lexus dealer and told them I wanted the TSB performed to enhance my transmission shift. They said that it would cost $105 to do a diagnostic to see if I needed it. I pointed out it was under warranty based on what I found in this thread. They buckled and said it would be free. My car goes in on Monday for an ECT upgrade. I sure hope it helps.

maybe its a canada thing, but my 2004 330 with 140,000 km doesnt get it for free, i even have ECP.
the dealer told me that it isnt a extended warranty issue and it doesnt have regular warranty to cover it.
so they said i could get it for the low cost of 1 hour labour which is about 100 bucks.
my question is, is it worth it?? my RX doesnt exhibit any signs of a tranny problem.

kiwi, I did this a month ago in my Japan made 04 with 49K. My car would jerk occasionally when accelerating and/or was a little flat. It wasn't bad enough to concern me but after reading up on this I decided to have it done during minor service. It was free. After a month, the acceleration is more responsive as well as the gear shifting. It's noticeable enough to appreciate it. I can't really tell you whether to do it because it is your money. But it sounds like you're happy with the way your trans is running. Good luck.

Go for it for a $100 you can try it. If it changes nothing or it gets worse, go back and ask for a refund.
