Could the self leveling headlight feature

Could the self leveling headlight feature
be contributing to the "curtain" issue with the headlights whereby they do not illuminate well when the raod elevation changes. I know I need to read the manual but would turning off this feature also disable the side to side movement of the lights?

side to side movement??
Do the headlights on the 2004 RX 330 with Premium pkg and NAV move from side to side or it is just on the newer ones?
I know my headlights move up and down but i am unsure about the side to side movement. Do I have to be going at minimum speed for them to activate?

If you have the HID lights they are equiped with the "auto-level" which is required per federal mandate for high intensity headlights, that feature can not be turned off. You can adjust the level to some degree. There have been a couple threads on this which you can do a search for. As for the AFS that can be turned off by the switch on the dash and you will get a warning light showing it off. If you have no switch on the dash, then you do not have AFS. The AFS feature works at speeds starting around 20 mph, you can verify that by checking the manual. I'm not real sure if the performance pkg. includes AFS but most likely does.

Neither the "premium" package (which is on almost every RX) and even the "Premium Plus" package include the headlights which turn left and right (I forget the name of that trick). From what I know, if you had these, you would have noticed it by now, especially when turning left.
I don't have it, so I'm not sure, but I think the car does have to be moving for this feature to activate.

Like Todd said, everytime you start your vehicle they do a "self test", but that is only if you have your light switch in the "Auto" position. If you have the switch in the off position it doesn't do it. Most of the time I used to have the switch in the "Auto" position so when I turn the RX on the lights do a little test going left and right then centering. It was easy for me to notice this as ours is always in a garage so would see it on the wall. When starting with the switch in the off position it of course doesn't do it.

I have a RX 330 of Year 2004 in which lights go up and down every time I start the car. I do not see any AFS switch. At least I do not know where it is. How do I know if it has the feature of the lights going left /right?

If your lights goes up and down when u start the car, it will go left and right on turn, thus, you have the AFS system. Keep in mind, not all model year have the AFS off switch. I am not sure about the 04 RX.
