Is Flint Mica similar to Black when it comes to upkeep?
I've always thought Black vehicles looked great, when clean! I personally don't have the time (or desire) to spend my weekends polishing up my cars. I thought I had read posts that Flint Mica while dark, but not as hard to maintain. As I searched again this AM, I am reading that people are finding it hard to maintain. I live in the Pacific NW and we gets lots and lots of rain, as you all know.
Before I ask the dealer to find me this color, can anyone tell me what they have to do to keep it looking nice? What about swirling?
I have a brushless carwash in the area that has yearly packages. It allows a wash once a week or once every 2 weeks. Will this be enough?

It's a little better than black when it comes to hiding scratches, but not a lot better. Fine scratches from a better soft cloth car wash (not the gas station) are evident over time.
I don't spend any time polishing it... just washing it. I'm washing it myself now that I've found the car wash has hit a couple of spots pretty hard.
No issues with swirling.

Its just a bit easier to keep clean than black I think....
So far I hve like no swirls on my lex, i bought it back in March,
We also get a lot of rain up here in Vancouver too

My last vehicle was Navy Blue and it was difficult to keep clean too. They look great clean, but it is too much work for me. I will never buy another dark color again. I love my silver RX!

The swirling is from hand washing it sounds like. Someone mentioned a "touchless" carwash in the other forum. I need to investigate what this actually means.
I know one way to reduce swirls is to use ionized (mineral free) water. This way, you don't need to dry your RX with cloth. One less step of swirling action on your paint.

Flint is a little better than black. It doesn't show the dust buildup quit like black does. As others have pointed out though it is a chore to maintain in that freshly detailed look just like black. If you want a car that is easier to maintain go for a lighter color. Problem with dark colors is that they look dusty, just hours after a detail. You have to be prepared to spend a lot of time to keep them looking sharp.

Our flint mica RX330 is two years old and still looks like new. My wife's previous car was black and showed dirt much worse than the flint mica. Besides, the RX looks best in flint mica so why consider black anyway?
