Question Headlights question

Anyone know if OK to replace the stock high beam (9005) with the superwhite bulbs like PIAA, Sliverstar or MTEC assuming they have the same wattage draw as stock?

I don't want the yellowish look on the DRL. But I am concerning the life span on the superwhite bulbs if they continuously on in dim setting. Sharpener, I looked at your profile. It looks like you have some lighting upgrade. Any suggestions?

Also, anyway to access the foglight bulbs (9006)? From undernealth the front air dam or from the egine bay?

The yellowish look of the bulbs is due to the reduced voltage applied to the bulb filament.

You may find they all yellow at the DRL level.

Well, I see the yellowish look on foglights and backup lights at normal voltage too. I am sure it isn't about the reduced voltage. I think it is because these superwhite bulbs have blue pianted surface (or chrome bulbs) to block some of the light output. Well, LED bulbs is another story.

As Tammy said try the super whites but don't be surprized when they put out yellow(ish) light when operated as DRL.

Can't say this with certainity about the super whites you may use, but in principle the super whites operate at elevated temprature. With split voltage (6v) in DRL mode, they will not be glowing white.

In other words don't expect 1/2 the light with the same spectrum when used as DRL.

At the end it is a matter of personal taste and the change may be good enough for you.

May be some one can post pics.

I replaced the DRL / high beam bulbs with Silverstars as I was disappointed in the brightness of the high beams. I haven't noticed any difference in the DRL color or brightness but then I don't really look at them much. I've had them in about 6 months with no failures.
