Default RX350 Break-in period?

Is there a Break-in Period for the RX350? On the older cars I usually do the first 1000 miles under 65 mph, with these newer cars...is this still require. The RX350 likes to ripp so keeping under 70 miles is hard to resist... any info is appreciated

Check owners manual.

Most modern cars do not require break-in period.

This is what I did and will do.

1. Do not drive at constant speed/rpm.
2. Avoid Highways to get a varience in speed and not be a neusanse on the road.
3. Do the first oil change around 500 to 700 miles.
4. Avoid high rpm.
5. Gradually work up high rpms/speed ... ie the 1000 miles is not magical number, that suddenly as odo says 1000 ... and it is ok to rip.

Thanks salimshah

but why the "Do the first oil change around 500 to 700 miles." very curious, is it because the engine is smoothing out and the access micro metals is collected in the oil?

The instruction is in the User Manual, I forgot the page, but it's there. There is nothing about changing the oil before 5k.

Found it page 91
first 200 miles no hard braking

first 1000 try to not go at the same spend for any prolong amount of time

Exactly.

For the first oil change I go the dealer (the oil filter is hard to break). Every dealer had an issue with it [more so from Lexus as the first change is complemantary].

Realistically, one can go longer (more miles before the oil change) with no adverse affects, but this is what I do.

I think it's more of a cautious break in period. I asked the dealer about it and they said it isn't as imperative to strictly follow the guidelines as it was in the past.

I asked my dealer and they told there isn't, just follow the manufacturer guidelines. In fact, the first oil change is due at the first 5000 miles and at 5000 intervals. My 5 weeks old RX350 has 2000+ miles now.

And according to the manual, you intervals may be 5000 or 7500 depending on driving conditions.

Manufactures use to always recommend an oil change in the first 200 to 500 miles. However, they don't anymore. Since they give a long-term warranty on the drivetrain, they must not be concerned about it.

JorgeGVB:

There are two reasons for it.

1. Machining and parts are being manufactured at a higher level of accuracy.
2. Nominal break in is done before the engine is installed.

I agree with you Salim. If Lexus isn't concerned about it, neither am I.
