Good to see Acura did their homework.

I just wonder if when they were conducting focus groups on the RX300 (since it had a nav option) and RX330 (since it was the first generation), if somebody brought this up in the discussions.

I can tell you this, granted that the nav system would not work here in Mexico City where I live, and that the few factory nav systems I see here on other vehicles are aftermarket or just plain suck...NO ONE I know will pull over in this city to tell a NAV where it wants to go or to check a nearby restaurant. I can imagine in some bad parts of Canadian and U.S. cities the same could be said.

The override works for the 2007 models when they first came out, but not with the latest 2007 models with the version 6.1 navigation. I read this forum before I purchased the vehicle and learned about the overrides; otherwise, I probably would not have purchased it. Unfortunately, the vehicle I purchased is one of the first that has the new version.

And Lexmex: you're right. I wouldn't use a navigation system in Mexico City either. I've driven there before and they drive worse people in most cities in the U.S. I could just see my using the navigation system while trying to maneuver one of the roundabouts in congested traffic. Then I'd be trying out the other Lexus safety features: airbags!

if you really enjoy the car, i would just suggest you do the hardwire hack. it's not that big of a deal and does not have any adverse effects on the car. i did wiring in both the RX and GS on my own, and i have never done any electrical work in my life. i just followed instructions on Club Lexus.

if you are not comfortable doing that, then there is another solution. a small company has been developing a product that bypasses all of the nanny features that Lexus blocks out. it's called the Ultimate Lockpick:

http://coastaletech.com/APPLICATION%20GUIDE.htm

they are slow to roll out products, but they get good results for those that don't like cutting wires. basically it substitutes wire cutting w/ custom harnesses that are plug and play. i would guess that they'll have an 06.1 lockpick solution in 3-6 months.

Thanks. I guess my concern about the hardwire hack is I'm afraid Lexus would void the warranty. I have all my service work done through them. I've checked out coastaletech's site, and hopefully they will come out with something. Thanks for the recommendation.

How can I tell if I have the lastest version or not? I purchased my RX350 last month.

I love the rear-view cam on these new RXs, but I always wanted to have Clint Eastwood's rear view from the movie Firefox, so I could see what wacko behind me is trying to sneak up on me.

Would love to have this installed for use in bracket racing where I now have to resort to mirrors.

lok888:

press "menu", then the map icon. it should tell you the version. but if you just purchased it last month, chances are it's the 6.1.

I will check when I get home. But do they go by the manufacture date? I will check the label at the driver door too.
