Dear all,
The maintainance indicator of my new Rx350 is on at 29xx miles. According to the manual, the first free maintainance should be at 5000 miles or 6 month. Should I go to the dealer for service or I can just ignore it right now. Thanks a lot.

Is the indicator designed to be like this? I mean for example, if I do service at 3000 miles and reset it, it will be on again when 6000 miles approaching? I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with my vehicle.

I called two lexus deals. One says the light comes on 4 month/5000 miles (whichever comes first) and the other one says 6 month/5000 miles. I bought it on June 5th and is it why the light is on? I'm really confused. Hope nothing wrong with my car. Anyone can help me confirm this???? Thanks in advance.

As far as the light coming on at either 4 or 6 months, this will occur only if the date is programmed into the maintenance section. Mine does not have the date programmed and therefore the light did not come on at 4 months. I took mine in at about 4700 miles. It was about 5 months old.
Oh yeah, if you want to change the oil yourself, good luck.. I bought the oil filter and attempted to change it without the required special service tool. That didn't matter though because when I crawed underneath the suv, I was somewhat pleased and suprised to find that the entire undercarriage was covered by a protective skit plate.
Never seen anything like it on any other vehicle.
No wonder why they charge 60 bucks for an oil change.
If your maintenance light is on, I would take it in to have it looked at. It can't hurt to have the oil changed early.
Ron..

I have 2700 miles on my 2008 RX350 and I have been driving it for 5 months now. So my question is should I wait for 5000 miles to do first service or should I take it in sooner? I would really appreciate some opinions on this.

Wait for 5K.
Do not worry about length of time.
As long as you're not driving in a desert like condition, dusty and crap....or you are using the car as a taxi....normal driving, wait for the recommended interval.

On my 330, the light is scheduled to come on at 5000 mile intervals. The light is a reminder only and the oil can be changed by anyone you choose. I do my own oil changes and the "special tool" required is a filter removal tool at around $10. Don't know about the tool for 350s but, if you do your own changes, the tool will quickly pay for itself. If you change oil prior to the 5000 mile interval and reset the light, say at 3500, then the light will come again at 8500. It is not set at fixed 5000 mile increments, afaik.

Lexus recommends service every 5000 miles on the Rx350. It sounds to me like your dealer deliberately set the service reminder light to come on at 3000 mile intervals. This is of course, not the way it should be set and was done to fatten the dealers wallet at the expense of yours.
I would take this vehicle to another Lexus dealer and have the reminder light changed to come on at 5000 mile intervals, I would also complain to Lexus HQ about the dealer in question.

Here is the info in my owners manual. It didn't sound like the maintenance light was programable but my RX is a 2004.
Determining the Proper Maintenance Interval
Depending on your circumstances, you should obtain maintenance for your Lexus every 5,000 miles or every 7,500 miles.
Follow these guidelines to determine which interval to use.
5,000-Mile Intervals
Use 5,000-mile intervals if you primarily operate your vehicle under any of the following conditions:
•Extensive driving on unpaved or dusty roads.
•Towing a trailer or using a camper or car-top carrier.
•Repeated trips of less than five miles in temperatures below freezing.
7,500-Mile Intervals
Use 7,500-mile intervals if you primarily operate your vehicle under conditions other than those listed above.
Your vehicle is equipped with a dashboard light to remind you when the engine oil needs to be replaced. The light is amber and labeled “MAINT REQD.” When you turn the ignition key to the “ON” position, the light will illuminate for about three seconds to indicate that the reminder system is working properly.
After you have driven 5,000 miles since the vehicle’s last oil change, the light will illuminate for about three seconds and then flash for another 12 seconds when you turn the ignition key to the “ON” position. If you use 5,000-mile maintenance intervals, you should replace the engine oil at your earliest opportunity once the light starts flashing.
After you have driven 7,500 miles since the vehicle’s last oil change, the light will remain illuminated when you turn the ignition key to the “ON” position. When this occurs, you should replace the engine oil as soon
as possible, regardless of which maintenance interval you use.

RMB350, changing oil on RX350 is much, much easier than you think. However, you need a bigger oil holder because the dirty oil be about 6QT+.
My Maintainance indicator light did not go on until it has 4,9++ miles and not 4 months.

Changing the oil filter will require the cover to be taken off.
