Cold engine knock
Just got back from Memphis for a weekend trip. Morning temperatures were chilly and I noticed that my RX350 had a knocking sound coming from the engine when I drove it. Noise finally went away when it got up to full operating temperature. Only have 3000 miles on it. It has not been cold enough here in Texas for me to hear this until I made the trip this weekend. Anyone else notice their RX350 with this problem? My RX330 never made this knocking noise when cold.

Run only premium 93 octane. Knocking only occurs from initial start up until temp guage is near the normal range. Maybe 3 to 4 minutes. It did it again this morning with the outside temp around 45 degrees. Oil level is normal and looks ok. Noise is definitely in the engine and changes with the engine speed. Anyone else heard this from their RX350?

You prob want to get it checked out. It was cold this morning but my car ran fine. I keep mine in the garage so it warmer in there. I know there is no Lexus dealer in Waco so that may be a problem. If you want to pay, my ex-girlfriend in college took her Lexus to Jeff Hunter Toyota or that import place off Franklin and they did a good job.

Looks like I will have Sewell look at it when we do the 5000 service. Interesting that at Spotnsabby has heard it as well. Makes me wonder if it may be more widespread.

Cold Engine Knock
I was hoping I was not the only one. Somebody else can back my claim. I took in my 07 Rx350 for this exact problem. During cold startup there is a knock/pinging/diesel engine type sound when the car starts up. Sounds like a sticky valve or a rod. After the car is warmed up the sound goes away. My dealership has opened up a ticket with Lexus/Toyota on this issue. We test drove brand new rx350's to reproduce the sound. Guess what. They all make that noise when cold. Dealer thought of numerous situations as to why the new 3.5l engine would make that noise. Possibly the new oil viscosity? All I know is that I do not expect that from a 40k car. Let's start a official Engine knocking thread. The more people we can't hunt down the faster this get's fixed.

I'm just visiting from the ES350 forum, but you're not alone on this. The engine in the ES does the same (or similar) thing. We call it the Diesel noise. If you search on 'diesel' on the ES350 forum you'll get plenty of matches.
