Is RX350 as quiet as the ES300?
I used to have an ES300, driven it for 7.5 years. Recently replaced with RX350. Notice that it is not as quiet as my old ES. Can hear the engine of the RX350 when accelerating at low speed. It is not as quiet as I thought especially when all reviews say that it is very quiet. Can anyone shed some light?

Very different vehicles. Car and SUV profiles are very different. The engine has to work lot harder and hence a drop in fuel consumption. Then you get into weight issues as you try to add more sound insulation. Lack of isolated trunk also introduces noise. Cabin harmonics make a difference too. [We used to have long discussions titled helicopter noise when one of the rear window was lowered in RX300. I have not seen any such discussion with the newer models. May be it is not present any more].
Try walking around with a 2ft x 4ft board on a windy day and you will feel the difference.
a reasonable comparison would be with other same size vehicles.
