RX330 after warrant
Hi, my parents are looking at 04/05 RX's, certified. After that warranty is up they plan to keep the car for a few more years. The reason we are looking at the RX is because we had a 1998 ML for awhile and it was a pain in the @$$ after the warranty was up, and so we sold it and she drove my dads old grand am when he bought his new car. Well if we buy this car, will we be okay after warranty. Its not a big deal if something breaks a long ways down the road, we just dont want stupid things breaking all the time.

Lexus parts and labor is high .. not as high as German Luxury but still high. Transmission run 4k, AC 1500 or so. Simple service is around 100+, mid level 500+ and extensive is 1200+.
The key is to find a well maintained RX.

Well we're looking for lower mileage cars, and we plan to ask to see the service records to get an idea of what problems we'll be inheriting. My father knows how to do a lot of things to cars, since he likes to mod his corvette in his spare time and he loves learning about them, so as long as we don't have to worry about major components failing often we are not worried. If it comes to the point it's in the shop once every other month or more then there would be a problem.

My neighbor's RX cost him over $1100 a year just for basic service. That does not include tires, brakes, etc.
Don't confuse reliability, with the overall cost to maintain a vehicle. Luxury cars are expensive to maintain regardless of the make.

Big difference between and S600 and RX though Anyway, I just had my 60K service done as well as front brakes (New pads and resurfaced rotors). I cost me about $900. The 30K was a little less since I didn't have to do the brakes. The 90K should be a lot more since the timing belt and water pump will probably be needed around that time. If you go to the dealer for the general 5K interval services, it should be around $75-200 depending on what needs done. The one thing I am worried about is the transmission.
