I'd like to have this system in my RX300. I remember that some of them in Asia had this system (the ones that did not use the 1MZFE engine), but they found not much difference in performance even with expert shifts.

I feel as though there is some sort of a misconception.

An AWD does not have a drive selector. It is All-Wheel Drive as in all wheels are turning at all or most times. 4WD, or Four-Wheel Drive, uses the selector that gives you the option of switching between two-wheel drive, usually the rear wheels, to high or low four-wheel drive.

What the AWD RX has is the electronic system that regulates the rotational speed of each individual wheel so that slipping is minimized. Unfortunately, this has no effect when all four wheels are slipping, which I have experienced, almost at the expense of three incredibly foolish fellow students.

Additionally, the 4 on the gear selectors do not indicate 4-wheel drive. That would lead one to believe that the other numbers also indicate the number of active wheels. Its purpose is to select the highest gear that you want the car to use.

I was simply intending to explain the difference between the two. Your previous post was a little confusing around the beginning, actually. I couldn't tell whether you were agreeing with the other person about the gear selector being used to activate/deactivate 4wd.

Folks, I've taken the liberty of editing and/or removing a few posts. This is a community forum, not a bashing contest, unlike a number of automotive forums we can all name. Please confine your comments to the subject and lay off the personal remarks. If you believe someone makes an incorrect statement, provide the correct information and cite your source. Let's not impugn anyone's intelligence or experience here - we are here to help each other, not drive them off in a huff*.

*huff = a small English car noted for noise, rattles, and leaks of various kinds, not produced since 1958, and then only as a small sedan of rather unremarkable appearance.

papasmurf2,

If you want to know what options, etc. are installed, have your VIN ready and call Lexus at (800) 255-3987.
