Default 2009 Lexus RX

I was just looking at websites regarding the 2008 RX350 and found this article regarding the concept for the 2009 RX.
So, I hope it hasn't been posted yet. and hope I am allowed to post this site.

Many of us have been speculating on the 'new and improved' RX, and trying to find information, so far with little or no success. Several things though, that seem to have consensus. Push button key-less start similar or like other newer Lexus products (IS comes to mind – for obvious reasons), possible choice between V6 and V8 power, better fitment of wheels to body (less fender to tire gap), heated and cooled seats, satellite radio and MP3 connectivity, all come to mind. Guess we will just have to wait till Lexus leaks some info – sigh….. I’m going to be due for a new RX about the time the 2010 model is available, would sure like to know what to expect

They need to move up to a V8. The technology is there, including hybrid as we have already seen. The RX has lagged for years behind market competitors in the power department.

has it really? 270 horses is more than enough to keep up with other family SUVs.

im guessing the newer one will have 290-300hp. They cant make it too much though.

also, lexus is very very secretive about their cars, you wont see this car or have anymore true info on it for another year at least

They've always been behind Acura and Infiniti (and of course BMW and Mercedes). 220 hp never did it for me at my altitude in my RX300 so I had to modify it. The RX330 could have used that 270 hp when it came out. You never know the value of hp (and torque) until you need it as in my case.

well you cant fight with acura and infiniti, power is all they got because they dont have much else to offer, lol.

2007 ML350 has 268 hp.
2007 X5 3.0 has 260 hp.

for their comparable engine sizes, the lexus comes out on top

What Lexus needs to offer is something akin to the 4.8 X5 or like AMG ML as an option. I have friends in the U.S. who won't give Lexus a look for an SUV as the hp is a sticking point, even though they admit the quality is there.

Acura MDX now has 300hp but take a look at the performance. The RX and MDX are identical in performance. If anything the 270hp RX edges out the 300hp MDX. It's all about weight which the MDX has plenty of
The RX and FX35 are also identical in power.

Yes I agree that Lexus doesn't have a V8 option that some manufacturers do but as far as the V6 goes, Lexus is at the top of the game and comparable to the V8 in some other SUVs like the ML500.

Honestly only the very performance hungry drivers will need a V8 in the RX. The RX 350 is plenty fast (0-60 in 6.8 sec, Car and Driver) and even faster than many sedans out there. If you really want to go super fast, you shouldn't be buying an SUV...just my opinion.

Don't forget the great fuel mileage this V6 gives. That'll be gone with a V8. I do think Lexus should put a V8 out there as an option just for image sakes so people don't feel that BMW and Mercedes is superior in any way. Personally I am happy with the V6 and wouldn't want it any other way. 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and fuel economy in the 20s is awesome.

Also wanted to mention something else. I don't know if you've noticed lately but Lexus/Toyota have really turned the tables and are now leading the way Just take a look at the new cars that have come out in the past year or so. Lexus is leading the pack and everyone else is trying to keep up. Take a look:

New Tundra - the most powerful / largest engine vehicle to ever come out of Japan. 5.7 L V8, 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 6.3 sec on a truck! It's going to eat up the domestic trucks and Acura/Honda is not even in the picture here.

IS-F - 400hp+ the fastest sedan from Japan to date

Soon to come: LF-A - the first true 500hp+ exotic from Japan

Current Class leaders: IS350, GS450h, LS460/600h (600h offers V12 performance as a hybrid)

Acura and Infiniti are taking a back seat.

Tell your friend to hang on for just a few more months. They will pump up the SUVs soon enough for his tastes.
