Default RX 350 Gripes

I've had my new RX350 since August and although I love it I have a few gripes. I'm wondering if others have these gripes and if maybe there are some workarounds.

1) Seat belt beeping. Wow, is this annoying. Just putting a briefcase on the passenger seat causes it to beep. Is there any way to turn it off?

2) Maintenance light on the dash at 5,000 miles. Do they think I am stupid? Why in the world would they do this and not have it easily turned off by the driver?

3) Transmission not nearly as smooth as previous versions. I traded a 99 RX 300 and that transmission was much smoother. The new one, for example, when you're on the highway and have to coast, when you put your foot on the gas is not nearly as smooth.

4) Heater is not nearly as smooth. One degree and it puts the blower on high and cools it off dramatically.

Anyone have any other gripes???

A loose breifcase on the passenger seat is not safe. In fact any thing over a lb is weight loose in the cabin can be very dangerous. [some would argue even a 1/2lb object at speeds of 60mph, untehtered can maim some one.]

The beeping is either a new feature on the RX350 or a personalized setting. At most, when I put my back pack on the passanger seat, the passanger airbag disables, but I get no seatbeld beeping.

As for the 5K maintenence reminder, if it is the same as the 04-06 RX330 it is easily reset by holding down the rest button while the ODO indicator is in the ODO mode, then turning on the ignition. Anyway, it is something like that and it is in the owners manual, or you can search the RX forums for the exact specifics. I'm just going off memory so I could be a bit off on the exact sequence.

Default Let me determine what's safe

Salim,

I don't need Lexus, or you to tell me what's safe. I'm not stupid. If I'm in the car and making a quick stop in 30-sec to pick something up, then I don't want this silly thing beeping at me.

Let me make my own decisions. Same with the foolish 5000 mile indicator on the dash. Ok, if you want to put them in, fine, but make them programmable like the key for unlocking doors, drivers door, or all of them.

One more gripe, the transmission on my 93 LS400 with 150,000 miles is FAR better than the 350.

I've owned three Lexus's now and this will probably be my last. I want a car company that doesn't treat me like an imbecile.

I was pointing out that the poor light is doing its job (what it is supposed to do for safety of all occupants). There are options and there are safety issues .

Clearly one solution/application may not fit all. Each owner is different and has different expectation. You can choose to cut the sensor/alram off, but I doubt any shop will do this for you, due to liability issue.

My post seems like a sermon, and that was not the intent.

Hope this un-ruffles your feathers. Peace.
