Here is the gap between the tire and rear strut and inner plastic fender liner. Maybe it was more like a 1/2". It looks larger in the picutre, but is actually about 1 finger gap or less. Either way you can see where the problem areas will be. Remember, my set up was an 8.5" rim with a +20 offset.

Here is now flush it is to the fender with the 255/50/20 tires I was using. Thinner 245/45/20 tires will of course be less aggressive. In the first pic you can also see how much tire bulge there is compared to where the rim actually is. The thinner tire or one that doesn't bulge as much from the rim will obviously have more clearance, so tire choice is important.

That is a very tight gap. Though there was some confusion on my part. The gap I was talking about refers to "the gap between the tire and rear strut" as being about 1" and less. That's why I thought that spacers would work.

Side note: Looks like you had alot of weights on the inside of the wheel. Why is that? Never seen that much before.

Probably because of the big old heavy 20" tire I think the guy just had a hard time balancing this set. The tires being 255/50/20 SUV tires were pretty heavy.

just going to 255/55/18 is a huge difference. car actually looks sporty, dont they usually recommend going 255/45/20? or is that for 21?

245 maybe 255/45/50 is probably the recommended tire size. I went over sized for two reasons. 1st, I was thinking about using this size because my car is lowered but not a lot, so the taller tire fills in the fender gap a little more. The car was going into a local car show so I wanted the least amount of gap possible. There was no coil over or after market air suspension available like we have now. 2nd, because I was thinking about it, I gave the specs to my friend and because the car club I was in was sponsored by Dunlop, he went ahead and put in the order and the tires just showed up one day. Either way it worked out.

oh yeah with 45 series the sidewall wouldn't be as "tall". i see where you were going with that. Think its possible to put 21 or 22 inch rims in the narrow wheel wells, without rolling the fenders?

Yes, I think it is possible. What we do know is that the over all diameter and width of my rims work. So, as long as you get the right matching tires on the 22" rims with the diameter the same or less it will be find. For the width, you can do up to 9" with the right offsets, but I'd probably stick to no wider than 8.5" and maybe even 8". It should be no problem though as everything just comes down to getting the right offset for the width, and getting the right tire size.
