Default Brake clunk

I have a 04' AWD. When I put my car in reverse and back up, e.g. out of a parking stall, when I hit the brakes to shift gear, this annoying clicking sound would come on. I told my dealer the problem and I've been told it is "normal" with the RX and that there is no official cure from Lexus!! Is that true or is the dealer b. s. me?? Anyone has any experience with that??

Default brake click...

yeah that is a normal characteristic of the brakes on your RX. What you are hearing is the movement of the pads when you change direction of the vehicle. Its normal in all cars, just some are more pronounced then others. My GS4 does the exact same thing and i have come to live with that clicking sound when moving my vehicle.

I agree that this is, more or less, normal. I have this sound in my Acura Legend, my '05 330, and had it in my Mercedes.

they can apply special lube to help "quiet" the noise. only problem is that it is really thick lube. can sometimes lead to pads binding.

I do not think any clunkiing sound or any cluttering sound is a feature of any vehicle.

I agree that "clunking" is not a normal sound. In my case, it is more of a soft click that is associated with the pad moving in its mount once vehicle direction has changed. I shouldn't have been so quick to say normal. A lot depends on how loud this is.

I agree. This is a known concern you read about in almost every Lexus forum. I should mention it is not just Lexus, but if you read all of CL you will hear members of other Lexus cars asking this same question. The shifting of the pad is what is causing the clicking.

It is a problem in the MDX as well, its the brake pads shifting. Acura has a TSB for this, they put shims in the pad. When the pads starts to wear, the noise comes back.
