Hi Everyone,
I;ve got a '07 RX350 with about 3,100 miles on the clock. I've noticed that the engine sounds loud at idle and has a clamoring sound to it. I don't recall hearing it in the past.
I babied it for its first couple hundred miles and then started to push it harded till about 1,200 miles. Any idea what maybe causing the engine sound? Sound I even be concerned?
Thanks
George

Be prepared for "this is normal" responce. The nice thing at the dealer is that they have demo models and you can always compare.
There are other threads on breaking in.

Guys...I understand break in procedures....when I say I babied it I meant did not floor it everytime I left a traffic etc. I learned years ago that the best break in involves a nice ride through the mountains where you can get on it once in a while.....which is what I did....my folks live in the catskills
I have an appointment with the dealer, but felt an opinoin from others who may have experienced similar issues would help me work with the dealer rather than accepting the "its normal" response.
Anyways...thanks for the feedback. I'll see what Lexus says

Its a difficult noise to describe. A subtle knocking sound perhaps...do you remember the 80's when GM came out with diesel cars...they were loud clanky sounding engines.....very similar but not as pronounced....very subtle but its there.
I first thought it was lifter noise from the valve train, but it definately does not sound like my past LS1 engine that was plagued with valvetrain noise....but that was not an overhead cam engine....so it could be

That is exactly what I have on my RX350. I remember my very first reaction was "Is this a diesel engine?". It certainly doesn't sound very "Lexus". I took mine in and the technician took it out for a drive and said that was normal.
I am most interested in what your dealer will say. Do keep us posted, would you?

i bet you they will say "thats just the way it is", then blow it off like its normal for a car thats worth over 40K+. when i start my car up in the morning the car starts like my foot is planted on the gas, like im starting up a race car. and my foot is nowhere near the gas pedal. they told me "its normal", we can "look at it" but still normal. good luck, the dealer most likely wont have a fix for it

Gman is right, the rpm's are revved up on start up. Then it will coast down into the normal, after 20 or so seconds....
