My brother in law bought a Range Rover..it was a tank! Cost an arm and a leg to maintain....one day it quit working...the ABS shut down, it has to be towed from my driveway (which is actually on a hill). I do not know how they got the tow truck up my driveway.....still a mystery to this day. A month later they bought a Sequioa....good for them!

Cost is always a factor. The Pilot is very highly rated, well regarded, and always gets excellent reviews. From what I know, it's an excellent SUV.
But it's not in the same class (weight, luxury) as the RX, just as an Accord is not in the same class as a Lexus ES, etc. The Lexus is more expensive, heavier, quieter, and more luxurious. I have no problem with anybody buying a highly regarded car that is less expensive than a car of similar size and function from Lexus (or MB or BMW).
That's what keeps Hyundai and Kia in business. Not everybody has the income to travel first class, and I think it's admirable that people live within their means.
Pay for the kids' college first; then treat yourself.

I disagree with that, the Pilot delivers a quality engine for a 30K car. The Pilot's chassis, interior and transmission lacks quality and dont get me started on all those cheap plastic interior parts and how badly they are put together. In life, you get what you pay for. The pilot unlike the RX is not a lexury car and it doesnt claim to be one.

I'm not sure if that is a question or simply a statement of an assumption you made from the previous post.
However, assumptions aside, he doesn't have to have owned "an Pilot" to be knowledgeable about the car.
I've never owned an Pilot myself, but know of its reputation.
. . . or an Land Rover, either.

couple of things........i never said the pilot is luxury all i was saying is that the pilot is a great car for its class and not cheaply built like someone else said. if you wanted luxury then you could always get the mdx. you are right luxury doesnt equal power, but on the other hand for that much $$$ if should at least have the same amount of power as others in its class (rx330). the tranny problem i refer to is how the tranny shifts strangely, like hestating before it up or down shifts. and the dealers have no way to fix it.

I don't know what u (I thought it was "you") r (I thought it was "are") talking about. If you review my comments, I think you will see that I agree with you that the Pilot is highly regarded.
My previous comment was directed at the mistaken concept that an informed opinion can only be based upon personal experience.
