Not a very elegant solution wouldn't you say? There has to be a way that the dealership can turn this "feature" off by default.

sounds simple to me! I did not like the little green "on" light that shines on the mirror face, so I got a little square of black adhesive backed insulation and stuck it into the square hole. Now I do not see the light, and you really do not notice the square of black insulation at all.

If it works, keep it.

I was wondering if I could take out the fuse or something to disable the sensor rather than putting that black tape.
I'm sure there's a way to do this....just couldn't figure it out.

Use a small artists paint brush and some black shoe polish paste. It will look finished and should be relatively easy to remove if you change your mind...

any more ideas on disabling the mirror dimming feature? I also find the dimming much too dark and is actually dangerous. Would love to unplug a fuse or something.

I have not done it (or even had a need to remove the rear view mirror) but how about un-mounting it and disconnecting the wire (just make sure there is enough foam on both ends of the connector so that they do not rattle.

On my 08 350 you can turn off the auto mode sensor by holding the on off button on the mirror for 3 seconds. The indicator light will go off letting you know that the auto dimming feature is off. On is the default for this feature. Page 55 of the owners manual.
