Default Extended Warranty for 04 RX330

Newbie....what are the recommendations for extended warranties...I am on 23,000 miles but warranty will expire on JAN 08, have 9 months to go. Do we have to purchase Lexus warranty does it have to be purchased from your dealership or can be purchased elsewhere? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the extended warranty has to be bought before curent warranty expires. For my 98 TL, I had to purchase it before it exceeded 40,000 miles and before the time limit expired. I did, it cost me $1500 for 7 years, 75K. The curent Acura TL extended warranty is down to $1200 for 7/100k. Why so steep for Lexus? Is this pure profit?

Bought extended from dealer before factory was up. They gave a great price & am very happy. I was able to deal a little on it too. As original owner they did the 7 year one but of course 3 years are passed so it is good for 4 more or 100K. We put on 15K/year so it will be prefect for us. About $1800 for it.

You can buy anywhere... avoid dealer... cost too much.
Where else can you buy it besides from the dealership, and is it exactly the same but cheaper? I mean, do we just bring in the vehicle to our local dealership for warranty work?

Thanks.

i dont think you'll need it. You have more than 6 months to see if you really do. Judge it on these 5 months and then decide.

Be very careful about buying extended warranty from other sources. You need to be assured that the company will be around and helpful when it comes to pay for reapirs down the road. So buying from Lexus may cost you more, but if Lexus does not remain in bussiness we would have other serious problems.

Be aware that Lexus dealership, just like giving you multiple fianancing (other than Toyota/Lexus) can also sell you extended warranty that is not from Lexus of USA.

To find extended warranty, you can start at the dealership fianancing wing. Your credit union and bank would be the next places to check. Call your insurance agent and (s)he can possibly refer you.

By purchasing the insuranc earlier, you lock in the price, at the same time you hand over the money too.

Last word on extended warranty ... the insurance companies make money on it. They just spread the risk by extending the pool. If you have 2 or more vehicles, it makes more sense to put away the the premiums in the bank and therby self insure yourself.

Default EX War

Thanks for teh advise. If it is going to be a hundred buck difference, I will not bother getting outside Lexus. Lexus will tend to negotiate easily with the Lexus insurance carrier.

So, now I have to start saving for the $1,800 that I will surely spend befor the year is over....

Thanks.

Can the problems be attributed to lowest priced oil changes?
