Default Mesh on Air Dam

I just completed the easiest mod for our 330-350's. It took me half an hour. Gutter Guard from HD, 2 pcs..

Now the condenser is protected from stones off the road...plus it is a clean look.

Investment: $2.40

Grin on my face: Priceless

How about a close-up of the mesh, inside and outside, and a photo showing how you installed it?

Thanks,
Gary

Default Procedure for Mesh on Air Dam

Step 1

Get 2 Gutter Mesh @ Home Depot.
Get Snips.
Straight edge.
Pliers.
10 mm socket.
Flat screw driver.

Step 2

Remove Bottom Cover, 10- 10 mm bolts, 2 plastics snaps.

Step 3

Cut the Mesh to 21" (both)

Step 4

Slide 1 mesh on left side, the right side.
2 meshes will meet on center rib.

Step 5
Tie wrap center rib to hold 2 mesh wires.
Tie wrap ends. Total 3 tie wraps.
(In will re-do mine, will bore holes and re-do the tie wrap for a cleaner look, suggest you do the same).

Step 6

Replace Cover.

Step 7 Pat yourself in the back. Nice protection against rocks and crap.

Mesh is aluminum and will discolor after some time, maybe a year, you can always paint it to your color spec or replace with new ones.

Pics will be uploaded separately.

I was hurrying up when I did this mod, I was going to late for church, I will re-do and put holes on bottom to hide the tie wraps. Also, I will inch up the mesh so that there is no gap seen fro the front. It should take me no more than 30 minutes to re-do. Good thing is there is no need to raise the car.

Good luck with the others who may want to try doing this. Maybe if the mesh was painted black, it will look better....perhaps I will paint a set and see what it looks like......

Looks good. I guess you could always prep them with semi-flat black for a hidden look. Nice pics and write-up.

THank you,

Gary

Is it a tight fit? Meaning, is there no rattling noise when driving down a not-so-smooth road?

No rattles at all, the mesh is pinched. When you get to slide it in, there pleanty of space. But when you tie it down, it is there solid and will not go any place. But a painted mesh might look better, perhaps one that is black....I will try a set and see what the look like. The silver color hides most of the guts, hence I stuck with the existing finish.
