Octane
So, I pulled up at the gasoline station tonight behind a brand new, still-has-temporary-plates, Royal Ruby Metallic, ES 350. When the glare of my HID, adaptive lights faded from her eyesight, I was already outside the cabin of my RX. At that moment, the cute female ES owner peered over and asked me, "what kind of gasoline do YOU use?"
LOL! I told her that is like asking for the meaning of life. She went on to tell me that this is only her second fill-up in her first ever Lexus. At any rate, I coached her on the "use 87 until you need higher" technique, which is to us 87 octane unless her car experiences knocking or sluggishness, then move up to the next grade. Drive, repeat as necessary.
I also mentioned that there is this community online called "Club Lexus dot com" where this age-old question (and many others) are discussed. She said she may check it out.
After our refueling encounter was over, we both bid adieu to each other and drove off in our separate ways.

I was putting a tank of Shell V-Power in mine a few weeks ago, and the owner of the station came up to ask me about it. Seems she was looking at one, and wanted to know what I thought. After I told her how happy I was with the car, we got to talking about gasolines...the station used to be a Texaco, and she told me the Texaco execs all ran 87 in their Lexuseseses.
Me? I run V-Power, all the time...the car seems happiest with it, and does indeed get better mileage out of it (don't ask me how). The rebate on the Shell Mastercard pays for the difference.

doesnt ES350 ask for premium. I never understood how u pay extra to buy a luxury car then cheap out on the required gas octane. u pay a premium of about 10K over a camry then try to save a few pennies by using reqular gas. Thats just sad

My Acura spells out PREMIUM and I use premium. My RX spells out minimum 87 OCT, so I have a choice. It is about choices, that's all. It is about control...agree?

I agree!! Makes no sense to me. My dad had a 2005 ES 330 and used only 87, had problems with engine and transmition - he hated the car and just got sold it. The dealer just kept telling him to use premium which when he did he said it drove better, but he would not use it all the time. He just bought a new 2007 GS 350 and loves it and he is now using only premium! Says it runs much better than his 330.
