White Dust Particles on Dash
#76
Even if the vehicle were under warranty, the basic question needs to be answered, "Is the HVAC system not functioning (a/c and heating) correctly?" If the HVAC works as its supposed to, what's to fix? "Dust" particles which pose no health threats? Despite Lexus' "Pursuit of Perfection", we all know, it ain't perfect.
If it is in fact calcium carbonate, here is the MSDS

Yes, but do we (or Lexus) actually know if the dust particles cause no health problems? It's not just your ordinary run of the mill dust. I read somewhere that the coating on the evaporator is calcium carbonate (I guess only Toyota knows for sure) and this is what's flaking off. Calcium carbonate when inhaled can cause irritation to the lungs etc.

They probably won't go in and replace it if there's no signs of a problem. Best way to find out is to call or take it in because not all dealers are the same. Ours was really bad, it literally took one night of running the heat to cover everything in the dust.

My dealer was quite cooperative in replacing the evaporator. No questions asked. Only problem was that one of the radio speaker covers was scratched (it was fixed and painted but color was different from other speaker) and the trim was not as tight as it was before they took the whole dash apart. I took photos first before I took it in so there was no argument to get them to "adjust" the trim. Overall, I'm quite pleased except for the color of the speaker cover. But no more white dust! Bob
