Question about Switching to Synthetic Oil

Yes.
5W40 would be fine for the 2nd gen RXs, though I would say a 0W40 for an RX300 (due to narrower cooling passages). Again, other people have differing opinions, and additives are also perfectly fine. As mentioned above, I do know of people who do use Marvel Mystery Oil, Restore Oil Additive, Auto-RX, etc. and they have also done the job for people.
I apply the same kind of idea with higher weight oil with my transfer case that has been leaking on and off for a long time, but recently stopped. I added some of BMW's synthetic 75W140 to the mix of the Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90 that I use and that stopped the leak dead cold.

With only 26K, you shouldn't experience any issues switching to synthetic, especially if you have had maintained the vehicle with regular oil changes.

I brought my car in to have my A/C unit fixed and metioned the leak to the service advisor he said the leak is part of the A/C unit condensation. I mentioned that I do my own oil change.....he said maybe you forgot to tighten the oil pan bolt. No way i said!!....It's coming from the seal gasket. He kept his mouth shout!
I'm due for an oil change soon. I will check underneath when I do my own oil change and take pictures. I will post it here.

Synthetic is worth the investment. Soon prices will be better. A lot of people are finding the value in it.

Engines that are switched early (like yours could be) rarely, if ever leak from synthetic. It's the ones that are switched at high mileage that have problems.
