Default Seat cover problem w/ front seat mounted airbags.

My new job requires constant trip to a construction site and definitely I need a set of seat covers to protect my seats from dirt & sweat.
However, I’ve noticed that my front seats have side mounted airbags.
Does anyone know whether it’s ok to put the seat covers or is it big no no.
Any thoughts? Also any recommendation on seat covers for front?

It's a big no no 'cause they won't deploy if necessary!

A popular seat cover is Wet Okole. It's made out of a material similar to a wetsuit; it's completely water resistant, but I've heard it's a pain to install, 'cause it fits the seat very tight.

I hope you have black leather . Just use a towel??

you know those people who put those mats on top of the dash? well there is a slit opening for the airbag to pop out. Im sure there is such a thing for a seat cover...somebody had to have thought of that.

if not...you could cut it...haha

or why dont you get the covers that only cover the middle part of the seat leaving the edges uncovered.

Wet Okoles are gret seat covers and are relatively easy to install. I had a set on my 4Runner for a few years and they performed great, seats still looked like new. Wet Okole makes custom covers and therefore they make special openings for air bags. One note though, Wet Okoles are not cheap, but you get what you pay for!

Another option would be to use "seat wraps". You can get them at AutoZone, Checkers and other similar stores. These wraps only go over the back of the seat and the cushion, leaving air bags completely open. These wraps are significantly cheaper than Wet Okoles and can be easily replaced once they wear out.

Hope this helps,

A lot of manufacturers make seat covers for side airbags now, just look around and make some calls, they will not be hard to find. In fact, if you buy a seat cover that is specify to the RX and the year manufactured, it will have a opening for the side airbag.

nah, don't get those! They make these covers now in sheepskin (very nice!), nice fabric, leather, etc...

So, let us know how you made out for a seat cover. Post a pic and we'll decide if cool or not.

I also used a set of Wet Okoles for my old Legend (because leather seat is torn... need to cover that...) they are expensive... $200 for the front 2 seats.. and took me about 2 hrs to install... a VERY WELL, TIGHT FIT...
(and I'm not too handy around cars...)

overall, very satify....
