Question Has anyone carried a Kayak on RX?

I would like to get a kayak and was wondering if anyone knows if the factory roof rack can be used? I am open to any ideas or suggestions.

The kayak I am considering is in the 12 to 14 foot long range and weighs 60 to 65 pounds.

Default kayak

I take my kayak freq on my 330 RX. I dont have a special roof rack,,i simply tie it down, cockpit side down using two straps wrapped around the both the cross bars and rails..it works every time. Be careful not to scratch your baby, tho.

Brian:

You should not tie your baby to the roof rack.

Use the back seat and just put up with the noise.

I've been tempted, though.

I am trying to visualize the back seat option ..

Is the suggestion to drive with the tail open? If so, I would be worried about CO and CO2 poisoning.

Before we go any further with this joke, let's let "Brian" identify the antecedent of "baby."

1. The car
2. The Kayak
3. His child.

Pick one, and we will carry on from there.

It was me without the coffee that did not catch on to "baby"

Thanks for the replies, I too had to think about the baby tie down, now I got it, so, is it okay to tie a kayak to the roof rack? If yes, I will be kayaking next weekend!

weight is not an issue.

wind ... should not be as the kayak should be aerodynamic (fluid-dynamic at least) ... as long as you tie it to face air resistance.

Last is the down/up pressure due to air flow. [Note the rails can take recommended weight but can NOT handle lift]. So Kyack bottom up should work.

You can always go slow and check periodically

Default Baby

I have been offline for a bit..I had to read this reply carefully! My baby is of course my LExus..Instead of threatening the kids with only , "Dont make me pull this car over and go back there".....I will add tethering them to the roof rack as possible punishment. Can you get two of em on the rack? Kayaks or kids? Anyone try this? THey just laff at me..so much for parental control!

Why do you think I escape on my kayak?

Anyhow, I have had plenty of success with my kayak on the roof.
