Default Maybe there are 2 changes

Greetings,
New member, not a Lexus owner (yet). Been shopping for better part of a year, but the RX is my favorite. I've also been following the same rumors and news you all have and, especially after the Tokyo motor show, whether there are two changes in store;

1) 2009 model year - minor changes, perhaps updated interior(I hope). Maybe 7/8 passenger (ugh).

2) 2010 model year - Major change, more inline with the concept shown in a previous post.

Anyway, just crazy thinking. Like the forum by the way, much more civilized than that "other" forum.

Still holding out hope. Would like to see some updates to interior. No hurry.

Jim

Welcome to ClubLexus!!!

Based on the model cycles, the original RX came out 1999, and was produced until 2003. The second generation came out for 2004, and now it's 2008 model year. With the timing of the LF-Xh concept, it's likely that a 2009 model year, third generation RX is very soon to be released.

A Lexus designer was interviewed at Tokyo, and did suggest that the new RX will not be as large as the LF-Xh, 3-row concept.

The 3rd generation RX is not confirmed for the Detroit Auto Show at this moment, but I will know within 2-3 weeks! I highly anticipate it will be, Lexus is always so darn secretive.

I talked to a rep at sfautoshow. She said she knew nothing about the changes. She said there might not even major changes in the 09.

The above information seems to be the most authoritative information so far and it states that there is no major change until the 2010 model out in late 2008/early 2009. Anyone have any INFORMATION (not just wishful thinking) to the contrary?

Well, based on the recent info I got from the new design. It forced me to buy a 08 Rx 350 last week. I couldn't wait 1 1/2 years to for the new one.

That's exactly what happen to me. I finally ordered a 2008 400h, due in 12/19. I was hoping for a body style change for 2009, but I'm too impatient to wait another 2 years - next Lexus! My MDX is 3-1/2 years old, and I generally get a new one every 3 years and after 2 MDXs, I'm ready for something different (and I really don't like the new MDX design).

I guess I really shouldn't be surprised, as the 2008 SC 430 looks just like my 2002.

Lexus seems to carry their generations way too long. I thought with the last RX and LS redesigns they would stick to the 5, 6 year max change, but looks like they are back to nearly decade long runs. My 93 SC400, which first model year was a 92 ran until 2000. 8 years. SC430 from 2001-at least 2008 so far. Same with the 2nd gen GS from 98-2005. 2nd gen RX seems like it will go from 2004-2010. 5 year changes are acceptable for Luxury cars. 6 years is okay but starting to push it. 7+ years is just boring IMHO. Not that the cars are generally boring, just that after 5-6 years when people are looking to get a new car, often Lexus is still selling the same design the owners currently have.

Actually it seems to me that the RX has not really been significantly redesigned since 1999 making it run for 10 years through 2008.

Sorry I do not hang out in the RX forums too much since I sold ours, but do you own a RX300 or the newer RX330 and RX350? There is not one common thing between the RX300 and RX330. They are totaly differnt cars in every way other than they seat 5 people and are SUV's.

No biggie just stating that the RX line is not 10 years old, they have made one significant model change. Now they are due for another and if it pushes past mid 2008 they are taking way to long. I am watching this thread like many of you because I will need a new SUV late next year. I am hoping a new RX will come out spring or at the lates summer so I can buy a used one in the winter. Worst case I will lease one during next years December to remember event.

By the way we put 100k miles on our 99 RX300 before selling it. We also have had many many RX330 and 350's as loaner cars and took them on many trips putting thousands of miles on them. The newer RX are nothing like the original. Some thing better some things not, it all personal opinion because both are awsome SUV's and nothing else compares.

I'm still thinking the '09 RX will be all new ... not sure if it will come out early in April like some of the models of the past or in the fall like most. The reason I think it'll be all new is b/c the underpinning (Highlander) is out already. If they are having small troubles I could see them holding out till a year from now and bringing it out ultra-early as a 2010 model. Wouldn't surprise me to see the hybrid delayed for at least 3-6 months after the gas-powered is introduced.

there might be a possibility of holding out till 2010.

if lexus wants to make the RX like shiznit again, it might introduce the hybrid with lithium ion batteries...and make it revolutionary (i dont think any other hybrid out there uses them yet)

I noticed something interesting a few days ago. I have a month subscription to techinfo.toyota.com so I can view all the Toyota and Lexus TSIBs. The other day, I choose "Lexus" from the 'Division' pull down and I selected "RX350" from the 'Model' pull down. Lo and behold, '2009' is listed in the 'Year' pull down. A few days earlier, it only listed 2007 and 2008. Hmm, what exactly does this mean? Not exactly sure. Unfortunately, the 2009 doesn't have any information attached to it.

I wonder if this means the next RX is going to be a RX350? Also, the fact that it is listed as a 2009, maybe it will come out in spring of 2008 as they usually do.

Just some food for thought.
