Yes, it's always 'Safety First' when working under an auto.
I make sure the brake is on and the wheels are chocked, you just can't be 'too safe'.

Still, it is frustrating to keep calling out 'Lefty Loosey and Righty Tighty' while my wife is under there.

You let your wife going under there?

Seriously, I wonder if this is a quality control issue. Do you think Lexus even test each and every jack?

I NEVER get under a car unless it is supported by jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack and a large 8 X 8" section of wood under one tire. I used to only use the floor jack and then I had a car collapse on top of me while I was using brute force and a 3 foot pry bar trying to break a 35 year old bolt free. Fortunately all four wheels were still attached and my neighbor was helping me. All I got was a sore shoulder.

Damn, that is crazy. I too use jack stands and also keep the floor jack under there just for good measure. I also have a pair old metal chocks that my dad had from long ago which works great. I was surprised that my BMW actually comes with wheel chocks as part of the tools provided with the car.

Statistical analysis has taken care of this issue. I can almost guarantee that any jack sold with any car is always pristine. The ones that are tested are not put in any vehicle.

My best guess is that the scissors jacks are bidded out to mass producer and companies just slap their sticker [the jack manufacturer may be doing that too].

I cant emphasize enough that the old jack should not be hammered back in shape. Replacement is a must.
