Default Mounting License Plate

So, my uncle bought a 2008 RX350 last Friday (Bamboo Pearl) at Tustin Lexus.
he's looking into mounting his license plate frame and bracket without drilling holes (NEW Car babying..)
I was thinking Automotive grade double-sided tape...but still afraid that might fall off?

Industrial grade velcro from Home Depot or Lowe's will hold the license plate for many years.

However, as a personal opinion, I would suggest a bracket that Lexus includes anyway and if you decide to take the license plate off later, just buy a few plugs to cover the holes (for example, www.bumperplugs.com).

You are required to have a front license plate in CA.
I told my uncle, that if Lexus of Tustin gave him one of the solid chrome Lexus plates (with no Dealer name) then he should go ahead and drill the holes, but yeah.
Considering the Velcro idea too

Tuan,
It seems you're talking about a brand new vehicle. How did you buy it without the dealer ALREADY having drilled and mounted the plate holder? I thought that was part of the law, too. That's what they told me.
If you were lucky enough to NOT have the holes drilled already, have them drill the holes, but you mount to the frame, after putting some kind of soft material on the back to prevent scratching the bumper. Use hole pluggers as has been suggested if you later decide you want frame removed.
........and zip tie, on a new Lexus? come on.

No front plate, when we bought had it put in the contract that we would not purchase if they installed it.

if you tell the dealers not to put the front plate on, they should respect that. and if you are so concerned about putting a front plate on but without drilling holes, then using zipties is a very strong way to hold it onto the bumper and not cause permanent damage and you dont have to worry about sticky residue.

I recently drilled the holes and put a front plate on my RX 350, it was a hard thing to do but feel that a velcro attached plate would be easier to steal (lose).

something else for everyone in california to think about. the front plate should be bolted or screwed down onto a mount which is on the front of the bumper. so in any case unless you have mounted like that its illegal. so using double sided tape, zip ties, etc wont pass highway patrol judgement if you are trying to dismiss a fix it ticket. so i figure why the hell have it there in the first place.

I have seen some after market mount that the screwholes are actually below the bumper, and the mount extend from beneath, and hold the plates in the front.

My old Legend has that kind of plate mount. it doesn't look bad at all, and it does not leave screw hole on the front of the bumper.

maybe you can look into those....

I use: http://www.kjmagnetics.com/

Mount some behind the bumper and 3M tape some to your license plate. Extremely strong magnets.

plate needs to be in the front of the car, anywhere else is illegal. plus you get into an accident then you now have a flying metal projectile. thats why i say either mount the plate legally using the factory mounts or just dont have anything there.
