Toll Transponder and Rain Drop Sensor
Has anyone installed a transponder (for tolls) on the inside of the windshield directly behind the “Rain Drop Sensor” section of the windshield? If so did it work properly?
Thanks

I put a transponder on the windshield of my GX 470 with no issues at all. I placed as the transponder instructions said, slightly to the right of the rear view mirror and below the rain sensor area. both work as the should.

There is nothing magical about exact location of the toll sensor. Some where close to center of the car and as high as possible would work. It is nice for the cameras to get the driver's mug shot too so little to the right is better. Behind the rear view mirror is already a blind spot so that is why it is the suggested location. After all the toll reader has no problem reading the sensor if you driving low slung cars to monster-trucks.
lbc99's concern seems to be more a about rain sensor being interfered with, so just move it to the right of the sensor.

Out of Warranty
Back in '01 the Harris County Toll Road Authority made me BUY a transponder for my RX 300 that mounted to the front license plate ($35). They claimed the regular RFID could not be read through the metallic tint on the windshield. When I moved it to my RX 330, they had no complaints - and it still works fine. Meanwhile they GAVE my wife a little paper sticker that contains the RFID device to replace the plastic box on her van's windshield.

The sensor I'm going to install is 2" wide x 4" long and my objective was to install it so the rear view mirror blocked it from my view. In examining the possible location I determined that it will in fact install below the rain drop sensor and be invisible to the driver.
Thanks all!

They tried to do the same thing to me. I've heard many complain about the plate issue because there were thefts on those. I just stuck the regular one inside the rx and havent had any problems.
