I'll look on the weekend but I'm pretty sure that they can't be seen without taking off the bumper cover.

Scarborough Lexus in Toronto installed the official Lexus accessory kit on my 2004 RX330 when I purchased it new in October of 2004. The sensors were not visible as they were installed under the bumper cover. As I said before, everything used to set the system off including the house across the road when I backed out of my driveway. I puchased a 2006 in Nov of 2006 and asked what system they had then --only the same one was the answer. Needless to say, I did not buy it a second time. In March of this year, I bought one of the first 2008 350's that came out of the Cambridge ON plant but this time I bought the top of the line package that included Nav as well as the rear camera. I was originally just going to get the Premium Package but there were still no sensors available and even the accessory kit was discontinued because there were too many people that were not happy with the way it functioned.

Cheap deal and Losiho--is there any way that you can post photos of both the sensors (on both the front and rear bumpers) and the switch that turns them off and on? I am curious because there are only 2 factories that produce these vehicles--one of them only an hour away from me. Do both of your vehicles originate from Japan?

Thanks

There are no Canadian - built Lexus cars here in Australia. Any and all Lexus models we get are built in Japan (which means we get some features you don't get, like rear a/c and audio controls in the rear seat of the LS400, and headlight washers )

I'll try and take some pics tonight.........

Thanks a million Losiho. Those sensors look good. Are you happy with the way that they function? I am assuming that they emit a warning beep/tone if you get close to an object or is there a visual display as well? Does the frequency of the beep/tone increase as you get close to the object? Finally, does you dealer sell this as a kit that can be puchased? This is the type of kit that I was looking for right from the start.

Thanks,
dentate

dentate -

They work perfectly. As I think I mentioned earlier, I only turn on the front sensors when I really need them, otherwise they beep from raindrops, pedestrians, wind on freeways, etc.

There is no visual indication, they only emit a beep that quickens the closer you go to the object, followed by a constant beep to tell you that you can't go any closer.

Yes, my Lexus dealer sells the sensors as a kit for various Lexus models - as a bonous, they come pre-painted in (current model) Lexus colours. I'm not sure if they'll ship to the USA, but you can contact them and ask -
http://www.lexusofblackburn.com.au/ (they are really good to deal with and I recommend them).

Cheers

When I bought my '08 RX this past June at Oakville Lexus, I had them toss in reverse sensors (among other things) to make the deal. They specifically talked me out of the Lexus version as they were experiencing customer unhappiness with them. I chose a 2 sensor aftermarket system. they work great. Protrude a bit from the bumper but do pick up what you want them to when backing up. They painted them to match the body colour. The speaker is wired to the front drivers footwell. The on/off/volume is a simple switch on the speaker housing itself.

They work as described, beeps getting faster as you get closer to objects with a solid tone once you're about 1' away.

Thanks for posting the pics. On the Lexus Australia website: Lexus ParkAssist Reverse Parking Sensor is offered as an option and also saw some sellers on ebay Australia selling the Genuine Toyota ParkAssist Reverse Parking Sensors for AU$396

Will try to email them/ Lexus dealers to get more info if they ship to US

Thanks for the pictures, here is a picture of 2 "missing" switches from the RX350 on the US version. One is for Switching on/off for ParkAssist. Wonder what the other missing switch is for.

Looks like the layout is also different

I'm not sure what the beige blanking switch is for.

I'm missing the Adaptive Headlights (AFS) switch above the fuel flap button on my car as it was released on 2005 - on RXs down here (mine is a 2004).

The blank to the right of the AFS OFF and Fuel door switch (lower photo) is the location of the 115V AC power outlet on/off switch - the outlet is in the luggage compartment (if equipped). It's in the 2008 RX350 manual on page 254.

I just checked lexus.ca and noticed that the sensors are not shown on the list of accessories for the 2008 RX350.
Kinda curious how an ultrasonic sensor can operate if it is obstructed. Doesnt this sensor send out signals and then receive them back in order to determine how far away objects are? Seems to me BEHIND a bumper would always think something was always fixing to be hit.
