A month ago I was driving on the freeway, and I ran over a piece of tire on the road and cracked the plastic covering underneath my rx 330![Mad](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif)
. Then yesterday I ran over a plastic bag and noticed that it didn't fly out the back of my car. It turns out that when I hit the plastic bag, it got caught and became a paracute which yanked out a bigger portion of the cover
.
I want to get it replaced. does anybody know what that is called, and how much it would cost.

Underbody paneling consists of several plasic parts, you might not need all of them
Go to your dealer and ask them for an exploded view of the underbody paneling. Once they give you a part number that you need, do a search on eBay or other sites and I'm 99.9% sure you'll be able to find it at a relatively decent price.

.. on the side note, those plasic covers underneath do not add any functionality to your car whatsoever, they're purely cosmetic. My friend drives '07 Toyota Highlander (same engine as Lexus) which doesn't have any of those plastic covers. And, amazingly enought, the car drives just fine! =)
So, even if you won't fine those plastic covers, you'll be fine too

I would not be too quick to say they are for cosmetic only ...
IN my mind they serve two purposs:
Splash shield (that may be the correct name too)
Control the air flow.
To what degree they affect the drivability is up for debate, but having one is better than none and having it broken/hanging will grab items from the road.

I do drive 4Runner though, and that car instead of "cheesy" plastic panels has real metal skid plates that protect the vehicle from sliding on the rocks and hitting engine, rack-n-pinion, transmission, etc... So that's why I mentioned that RX300's plastic underbody covering are mostly for cosmetic purposes, such as to keep the engine clean, reduce some wind noise, etc... but for functional purposes as on other cars.

Not to mention the rx 330/350's high bumper, meaning more air surface area. While they don't provide structural protection, you definetley need them for aerodynamics, and keeping water out of the engine bay.

I wanted to replace mine because they were cracked. But I finally found the price. They are $139+ on the big one and $50 on the smaller strip. So, I am keeping mine. Mine's just has a tear, but all intact. Try Lexus-parts.com.
