tjain ... have you modified your car in anyway? Although mine is a AWD, I don't think that makes up the difference. did you check your gas receipts to see that its right? (mileage driven/gallons of gas). I drive in upstate NY in the winter and noticed any time the car does lots of thinking (aka AWD), I get around 15 - 18 MPG...
On my 2005 RX330 AWD I was getting around 18 city and 22 highway. On the 2008 RX350 AWD I still get around 19 city but average around 24/25 on the highway. I can not complain...

To make sure checked the gas receipts and the mileage shown by the trip meter was off by 1/2 mpg when compared to the standard method : No.of miles driven divided no. of gallons. I get around 21 to 21.5 mpg in city driving.
Hwy mpg is always between 28 & 29, but this is the first time I got above 30 mpg, at one point trip meter was showing 32.3 mpg but was unable to take the picture because the driving conditions were not safe.
AWD gets 1 to 1.5 mpg less than a FWD and RX350 gets better mileage than RX330, don't know how toyota managed this.

As an interesting point to all the discussions about fuel mileage, we just returned from a two week trip, Western States, 3,358 miles in total, most of it spent at 4,000 to 8,000 feet in altitude, with a number of mountain passes that exceeded 9k feet. We drove through several hundreds of miles in the high desert in Nevada, as well as the Utah plateau, often running at 85 to 90 MPH (in Nevada absolutely zero traffic on the more remote highways). Our overall trip average was 23.03 MPG (trip computer stated 23.6), and a lot of this was with 10% ethanol fuel. We used exclusively premium from a fairly large cross section of retailers. Had the RX loaded down with luggage as well as several cases of wine and other spirits. The RX performed flawlessly, with no issues or problems.
