Default AFS not working right

I drove my wife's 10-day old RX350 tonight and noticed that the right headlight is not turning as the car turns right. The left one works great, I could clearly see it turning to the left on the left tirns and returning to its position after the turn is complete. As I start the engine w/headlights on, they both do their litlle dance left-right. I am aware of the at-least 18-MPH speed necessary to activate the AFS and took some corners at over 30. Still nothing. Anybody had similar problem?

P.S. I know, the car is under warranty, but I don't want to drive 50 miles to the nearest dealer if the problem can be fixed by pushing or resetting some buttons.

that is completely normal.

Lexus introduced this AFS headlight system on the RX, and when it was made, they thought that since the driver is sitting on the left side, you can see right even without the light turning. It turns left more (15 degrees) because that pillar is in the way. However, on newer Lexus models with the AFS, both headlights turn 15 degrees.

the right does turn 5 degrees, its just really hard to notice

Mine is a 2008, can't get any newer than that. The manual talks about 15 degrees. However, after your reply I went back and re-checked the right side, I could see it barely moving, could be 5 degrees. At the same time, as I stated earlier, when I start the engine and the headlight are on, thy both move left and right about 15 degrees as soon as the engine fires up.

Well, stupid me. This how AFS is described on Lexus website: "The available Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) helps illuminate more of the road in a turn. In a left-hand turn, the left headlight will pivot up to 15 degrees (the right-hand headlight remains pointed straight ahead) and in a right-hand turn, the right headlight will pivot up to 5 degrees (the left-hand headlight remains pointed straight ahead)."

yes, i know your model is a 2008, but when i meant newer models from lexus, i meant their new lineups. since the RX is basically from 2004, they dont really change their production process out of no where

from what i remember, it should be moving more than that. you dont by chance have an "AFS" light on your dash do you? ive seen some ES350's with AFS issues that could be related.

i would take it to the dealer to have it looked at. or just deal with it until your next service and have it checked then.

Read the description from the Lexus website. So, what is there to check? And no, I don't have the "AFS" light.

Default Afs

The AFS light will also come on when you deselect the system. In the drivers seat. By your left knee. There is a switch to turn off the AFS.
