Question What's a Pebble Beach edition RX?

Is this something the factory dreamed up to get more money from the consumers with special paint and special alloy wheels? Similar to the Neiman Marcus edition cars?

no such thing? its the thundercloud edition for the RX. Pebble beach is for the SC430. And yes, it has a special purpleish color with slightly different rims, and a different grill.

The 2009 RX350 brochure I just received from my dealer shows the Pebble Beach edition in it.

You hit the nail on the head.

"Is this something the factory dreamed up to get more money from the consumers with special paint and special alloy wheels?"

Simple! That is RX edition that can only drive for about 18-20 miles, slow and only by coastal line in CA. And the owner/driver must have annual income no less then 7 figures.

My local dealer says Lexus will start shipping the 2009 PB edition to dealers in about a month's time. My rep said it's something special for the current style RX to spruce up buyer interest before the redesign 2010 RX comes out sometime in 2009. He also said other than the body change for the 2010 model, the powertrain will remain the same like the current model.

Interesting as our Thundercloud had several cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the other RX's including unusual paint color - kind of a pewter with hint of lavender in the right light (there are only 600 with that paint color on the road), body badging, Thundercloud carpeting, black walnut trim (since available in the 08 models), and different rims and grill (which is a popular upgrade with other RX owners). Will be curious to see exactly what a PB edition will look like.

I have seen a few TC edition and they look sharp. The color is unique.

Could someone who has seen the brochure describe what's different about the Pebble Beach Edition?

there is a rectangular badge on the fender that says pebble beach edition. the wheels are nice. Can't really describe what they look like but that are Y spoke instead of the straight spokes. Looks nice in Truffle Mica. The grill has chrome spokes on it as well. Inside, the floor mats have the pebble beach logo.

truffle mica color is the new color for the LS600H, and kinda looks like the Flint Mica from the RX series. Its a gray-ish charcoal color. I havent seen it in person but im guessing it is more metallic. oh and the truffle mica is only available on the Neiman Marcus edition LS600H and is not yet mainstream. Are you sure its truffle mica and not flint mica?

I'm buying an '09 RX 350 PBE- Truffle Mica, 134K, clean, $6800..
The specs for this VIN on the 'lexus.com' site indicate wheels are 65R17.
However, the 1 pic I have of the actual wheels- the 5 YH speaker- indicates an 18" wheel.
There is alsol NO indication of the width of the rim.
Anyone know if these are 18x6.5, 18x7, 18x7.5, etc.?
Thanks!!
