I am not familiar with other state laws, but in here in Texas there is specific paragraph that the seller has to attest which states the milage and changes done to it.

You are correct that the law does not prevent people from breaking them. It is the consequences of being caught. That is why I said "reputable".

the seller didnt have carfax, but showed me some kinda other report saying it was morr detailed than carfax. these days 95% car listing have free car fax to it or thr dealers show them right there.

UZ214, looking at the ad, I could not really see that anything is wrong with it. This vehicle is 4-5 yrs old, and anything can happen in this time frame. The 23.5 price is crazy cheap for an 04 RX with NAVI, similar elsewhere would run you at least 28-30K+tax. Go ahead and check out the stealership in NJ that someone here recommended, they have only certified in stock, nothing less than 34K. Just because of low price, you can look at it harder, run both CARFAX and AUTOCHECK. Or, you can keep shopping, I know how freagin difficult it is to find a used Lexus, believe it or not. It took us 2 months to find ours.

this will only help if the car was taken in for service. I never go to the dealer unless its warranty work on my car so i have had cars that would show no trace thru a dealer. Just food for thought as they may not have accurate info but worth a shot.

People can roll the miles on any car if they want to. Yes its illegal but it happens and i have heard that people are doing this on the digital ODO's now. Who knows the reality of it and for this and many other reasons i buy or lease NEW so that i dont worry about this kind of stuff.

On another note! do you have CarMax in your area? they are claimed to be great with all makes of used cars and they are picky on what they buy from a private party or thru auction. I would consider this if its an option. they are local to me but may not be all over??

Don't judge it by wood color, when I bought my '01 GS430 it had wood steering wheel but only a leather shifter, I went and bought myself the wooden shift **** and the wood is very slightly lighter than the rest of the wood in the car ... You can barely tell, but still that's no reason to worry, now the condition of the interior is something else ... Either the miles were rolled back, OR the person who owned the car didn't give 3 S***s about it ...

The mileage checks out as per the record on the full history section of the report. However that does not mean that at 21K miles something BAD happened and they rolled the miles back ever since then and never reported another event on it... who knows!

But the report does check out otherwise.

Was the condition of that car really bad? Is there anyone in the Long Island area who can check the car out (second look)? My wife and I are seriously considering it within the next 2 weeks or so. This dealer does look like they have a lot of other high end cars... what are the chances that they would get a shady one?

you are doing a lot of homework on it which is really good. and at some price point i guess it's a good deal but given everything posted and the wear and tear, i think you'll still be rolling the dice a little. buyer beware as always but something just doesnt seem to add up. based on the first post of this thread, it's been ridden hard at best. good luck with whatever you decide.

that car has been sitting with that dealer for maybe 3-6 months that is what the sales guy told me he came down to 23k when i was walking out they were desperate to sell this- this is the worst lexus i have seen with that low miles and interior looked as if was off a 100k+. even on the key where the lexus logo is was faded- i didnt even drive it it was bad-save your self a trip and look else where-i also went to autolenders their cars were clean but they wont bargin even a little so there was no deal they wanted 28999$ for 35k miles on a 04 fully loaded-

i been looking at rx330 04-05 for about 2 months now, i just got one last week that was Ny too - 05 with 51k for 26999$ awd fully loaded nav and etc had one owner got 4 keys and etc. have already put 400 miles on it, needs some alignment but other than that is good

i got mine from queens auto blvd, in Queens, they had only 4 lexus, not a big dealership but i didnt care as long the car was good,
