Default moonroof problem

Hi,

I've got my brand new 08 RX350 for just about two weeks. I've tried to open/close/tilt the moonroof when it just arrived in my garage. It was working propoerly. But when I tried to use it on the route, it stop working. It could only be tilted. The sliding moonroof buttom did nothing when pressed. Even the tilt functioned oddly - when pressed and held to close, the moonroof run all the way from tilt to close and tilt again. I have to press the buttom very carefully to make sure it was closed firmly.

Has any one experienced the same problem? If there exists a simple solution, it would save me a trip to the dealer. Thank you in advance!

Victor

If the problem is related to resetting the pinch protection it is discussed here:

Since it is brand new, make full use of the warranty.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be "Operator Error." Unfortunately, I can't remember what I was doing wrong. Read the manual closely to see if there is any fine print. Most likely, if you call your Service Rep, he/she can tell you what is causing the problem, without having to take the vehicle in. Wish I could be of more help but it was 15 months ago...I can't even remember what I had for dinner 2 hours ago.

I've had the same problem in my 05, and it wasn't operator error, the roof would randomly stop working correctly and tilt up but not open. Symptoms are exactly as you describe. The RX has been into the dealer 3 times now, and they said that if the last try doesn’t fix it, they will replace the entire sunroof. They agree it's a problem and likely with the "anti-pinch" safety feature. They have reprogrammed it three times now, and the last time they also cleaned all the rails, cleared any potenital obstructions (they fould part of a leaf) and lubed the mechanism. So far the fix appears to have worked. Will have to wait and see though. I would strongly recommend that you get it back to dealer for warranty repairs. This has been the only warranty issue I've ever had with our RX in almost 40k miles.

I had the same issue. 2008 RX350. The stealership tried to fix it twice. No go. I applied some silicone weatherstrip lube to the moonroof molding and the inside metal surface of the car body. Over two months and still working. Most dealers never put the good guys to fix these problems, they use the tire boy.
