Question Need help with noise from roof rack

I have a vibration/whistle noise form the roof rack. I was told to try to move the front one all the way to the front and the the rear cross bar all the way to the rear. While at first this seemed to reduce the noise, it doesn't seemed to have helped.
Any ideas?

Just remove the entire roof rack -- I did.

Do a search of the forum using the key words "Remove Roof Rack". There are pros and cons to doing this, depending how far you want to take it. (i.e. just removing the cross bars or the entire rack system).

I would try to find the offending bar and properly space it to reduce noise. Try duct taping your wife to the roof and drive down the highway at a high rate of speed to have her see which bar is causing the problem.

You may want to check and make sure that the bars are oriented correctly, some came from the factory with the forward part facing the rear. There is an arrow on the crossbar that indictes forward, if it ain't pointin towards the front, that would explain the noise. We've had no issues with ours, and no noise.

Thanks for all of the replies. I never did see the "front" mark on the cross ties. I did discover that one end of one of the cross bars was loose and can be easily moved by hand (and wind). I will show the service advisor at the first service.
Thanks again.

good luck with this, we have the same problem on our rx400. The cross bars have been replaced twice already and it still makes noise. Pointed out that one side is loose. They are designed like this so you pull the lever up and they move. I didn't know about the arrow pointing forward on the cross bars and can look at that and will try moving them all the way back as someone suggested, but I was basically told to live with it by the lexus dealer.
